Why is there no justification written for why this got the DD? I am interested in why this particular shot got it. If I were to look at this shot critically from a technical point of view, I'd say that its over-exposed, not in focus, and not well color balanced. Artistically, I don't see anything particularly interesting being stated by it. No offense to the photographer but why does this get DD?
Its a stock image of a cat in time for Halloween for artists to manipulate into their own work, why on earth does it need justifying?
Please take the time to understand what stock and resources are before telling a stock provider their work doesn't have artistic merit in your opinion just because its not been post edited and cleaned up.
Okay, point taken, apparently the rules state that we should not be critical of peoples work if it earns a DD.
And yes I know what stock resources are. They are high quality, (typically sharp, high-resolution), images of a particular subject which also typically have have a relatively neutral background that can be removed easily if needed. They are meant as a resource for other peoples work. As ShesABromide pointed out, phantasmastock has taken many other stock photographs which satisfy these criteria much better. If this picture had been even less in focus, I'm sure you'd have even more people curious as to what merited the DD.
However phantasmastock has a large body of work that deserves to be seen, so if all the DD is about is exposure then it is well deserved.
The purpose of any DD is to create greater exposure of the art, and thus the artists entire gallery - which in this case has been rather successful wouldn't you say? Yes this artist has many great pieces in their gallery however in this case this image was chosen since it fulfilled a better range of criteria than some of the other cat images. Once again I'm left repeating myself, if viewers of DD's don't like what they see being chosen, they should make the effort to actually suggest artwork to the community volunteers. Its as simple as that.
I didn't find this comment rude at all. &I agree with you partially: in this image the pose doesn't particularly stand out, the image has a sort of hazy light over it which diminishes the clarity, and the background isn't a solid colour making it harder to edit (considering this is being featured as a stock and resource piece). That being said, I think ~PhantasmaStock has much better stock pieces in their gallery, like [link] or [link] It's a shame those weren't featured instead, but the artist isn't the one who picks the dd That's what the other people who replied to you were trying to get across, I guess. If you're curious about the reasoning behind this DD (as a few people seem to be) it would be much better to ask the mod directly so they get the message and can respond
How am I being rude? Clearly, the person who awarded the DD to this piece critically analysed it. They found merit in it worth awarding and gave the award. But they didn't tell everyone else what they saw in it. I personally don't see what stands out about this photo, but maybe if it were explained to me, I would. As a community, if we are going to celebrate excellence we should at least have the decency to communicate what we are celebrating. Otherwise the DD kind of loses its meaning. (Which is fine, but then why have it?)
"If I were to look at this shot critically from a technical point of view, I'd say that its over-exposed, not in focus, and not well color balanced." It wasn't exactly like they were saying the work is total crap, or saying that it's stupid. They said they don't find it interesting and gave examples of elements that can be improved on Just because it's a criticism, doesn't mean it's a rude criticism.
It's rude because you're not leaving the comment in a place that somebody in a position to do anything about it is likely to see it, the only person who's going to get exposed to your negativity is the person who submitted the photo in the first place.
All you're doing by leaving this comment here is potentially hurting another persons feelings. That's a shitty thing to do.
If you've got a problem with how DD's are picked take it up with the staff.
Looks like my cat Skar, gray side burns and everything~ she even sits like that, the regal air, though she is the size of a kitten~ And, Skar is fully black(except the side burns~) Great picture, it makes your cat looks as though she is soon to dictate to her subjects.
